EVERETT — Detectives with the Washington State Patrol hope to learn more about two vehicles that reportedly were speeding along I-5 shortly before a Saturday afternoon crash in Everett.
“They had a possible role in leading to the cause of the collision,” trooper Mark Francis said Monday.
An Everett woman was taken to a local hospital Saturday after she swerved to avoid a collision with one of the vehicles. The crash occurred around 1:30 p.m. Saturday near the 41st Street overpass.
Francis said he doesn’t know if the drivers of the two speeding vehicles — a sport utility vehicle and a pickup truck — were somehow connected. Although the two cars might have been exceeding the speed limit, Francis wouldn’t say they were racing.
“We just want to corroborate what the witnesses reported,” he said.
The injured woman, 28, was driving her Chevy Equinox northbound when she encountered vehicles traveling at high speeds near the overpass. When she swerved to avoid one of the vehicles, she hit an Acura before running into a tree.
The Acura driver, a Woodinville woman, 49, was not injured. She was able to drive her damaged vehicle away from the scene.
The State Patrol has descriptions of the other two vehicles.
One was a black, full-size Dodge pickup with tinted windows. The Dodge, which appeared to be 2000s-vintage, had a “12th Man” flag and a Seahawks flag as well as a dark tinted Seahawks logo in the rear window.
The other vehicle was described as a black Lexus SUV.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or may have any information about the events leading up to it is asked to call patrol detective Charles Sletten at 360-654-1144.
