BELLINGHAM — Downtown Bellingham might attempt to get on a national list of historic places.
The Bellingham Herald reported that a special meeting of the city’s Historic Preservation Commission will be held Tuesday to review a proposal to nominate downtown Bellingham for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
At the meeting, downtown property owners, businesses and the general public can learn more about the proposal.
Being added to the national register is an honorary designation. Project Manager Katie Franks says the designation imposes no additional requirements or regulations to properties.
Potential benefits include greater historical and tourist recognition, and eligibility for grants and tax credits.
