LYNNWOOD — A second-degree murder charge has been filed against a Lynnwood man believed to be responsible for a fatal stabbing last week.
Jesse Cardena Lopez, 34, died Oct. 24 from stab wounds, the Snohomish County Medical Examiner said Thursday. His body was found in an apartment in the 3000 block of 164th Street SW in unincorporated Lynnwood.
Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies arrested Encarnacion “EJ” Salas, 23, after receiving a tip that he was hiding in a nearby apartment.
Witnesses reported hearing the men arguing before the stabbing. The victim’s mother told investigators that she saw Salas reach into his backpack and then jump on top of her son, court papers said. The woman saw a large amount of blood and tried to stop the attack.
Moments later, Salas ran from the apartment. The woman went to a neighbor to get help.
Lopez had been stabbed in the head and torso.
