50 years ago (1964)
Marked changes were in the planning stages for the intersection of Mukilteo Boulevard, Dogwood Drive, Olympic Boulevard and Wood Place, it was revealed today by Rowell Paine, city engineer. A traffic light for the crossing was planned for later.
A final appeal for food donations to fill Christmas baskets for needy and hungry families had been made to Mukilteo Marshall John Nunnally. He said the food could be delivered to his home at 1001 2nd St. The Christmas Basket Clearing Center in Everett would determine who received them.
25 years ago (1989)
Carl Varner and his southwest Everett neighbors got an early Christmas gift from the Everett City Council. Varner was a member of Citizens Alliance for a responsible Everett. For the time the group had successfully helped defeat a 1,000-unit multifamily project on land near Glenwood Avenue and Merrill Creek Parkway.
Lisa Picklesimer tried to get her daughter Natalie’s attention as the youngster sat on the Big Red Guy’s lap at the Everett Mall. Photographer Geri Hopkins and her assistant Lynn Martin were trying to coax smiles. Hopkins said after spending eight hours doing this, she sometimes felt like the “Smiling Grinch!”
