EDMONDS — A 49-year-old woman was seriously hurt Sunday night when she was struck by a car.
Investigators believe she had been parked nearby, drove onto Highway 99, and stopped to clear her windshield, possibly of ice. She was standing near her car in the area of the center turn lane when she was struck.
It happened about 8:30 p.m. near the highway’s intersection with 236th Street SW, according to the Edmonds Police Department.
The driver sped off, continuing southbound.
The woman, who suffered head injuries, was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. She was in serious condition Monday. Her daughter, who was in her car, was unhurt.
Detectives were on scene for hours, and they collected at least two pieces from the hit-and-run driver’s car that had been knocked off. It is believed to be a black Dodge Charger, likely from 2006 to 2010.
The car likely has significant damage to the driver’s side fender, grill and headlight.
