2024 Ford F-150 is a cornucopia of varieties

2024 Ford F-150 is a cornucopia of varieties

The Ford F-150 pickup offers more varieties than a box of Crayolas. The labyrinth of different cab styles, bed lengths, powertrains, trim levels, and feature packages could cause a person’s mind to start going outside the lines.

And so, information here will simply focus on just one version, the 2024 F-150 Lariat 4×4 SuperCrew powered by a 3.5-liter PowerBoost full hybrid V6 engine.

With a base price of $67,390 the Lariat trim is about halfway up the F-150 lineup ladder, striking a pretty good balance between affordability and feature content. A spendthrift’s supply of optional equipment on my test truck wobbled that balance somewhat, but added compelling features like the PowerBoost hybrid engine, a twin panel moonroof, tow/haul package, B&O Unleashed sound system, a spray-in bedliner and much more.

The 430-horsepower hybrid engine quickly propels the gargantuan F-150 with ease and has a maximum towing capacity up to 12,700 pounds. It can also provide power for an onboard generator in the bed, which can supply electricity for job sites, tailgate parties, outage situations and what have you.

The hybrid setup brings a welcome increase in fuel economy. Its EPA rating is 25 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. In comparison, the turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 engine’s numbers are 20/26 mpg, the 5.2-liter V8 numbers are 10/15 mpg, and the three other engines are scattered in-between.

F-150’s imposing size doesn’t hinder its maneuverability. Twists and turns are handled with actual finesse. On wavy roads, truckness is on parade as it bounces along in a pleasing way for pickup enthusiasts and a delight for young children.

The cab’s interior is an appealing array of high-grade materials pieced together with impressive attention to detail. Comfort, convenience and tech features are plentiful. So are stowage cubbies. A user-friendly 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system is standard.

Ford designed the interior space with a mobile office in mind, having surfaces suitable for conducting paperwork and other business-related activities. There’s a whopping amount of passenger room inside the SuperCrew cab.

Ford’s optional Pro Access Tailgate is new for 2024. It configures a small section of the tailgate with a side-mounted hinge for easier bed access when a trailer is attached to the truck. A handy and helpful new addition.

Another F-150 newcomer for 2024 is Ford’s Blue Cruise hands-free driving system.
