For a Beer or a Lifetime
Foggy Noggin Brewing, Bothell
Style: Amber Ale
Stats: 5.5 percent ABV, 55 IBU
Available: On tap at the brewery and at this weekend’s Bothell Beer Festival
My thoughts: When I think of Bothell beer, I often think of Foggy Noggin. Jim Jamison has been brewing his English-inspired brews out of the shed in his back yard since 2010. They’re consistently good and authentically English, right down to the names, Bit O’ Beaver, Christmas Duck, Rufus, etc.
If you’ve lived in or near Bothell for much of your life, you’ll recognize the name of this beer. The old Bothell sign that welcomed visitors said, “Welcome to Bothell: For a Day or a Lifetime.” Sales from this beer, an amber ale, will go to helping bring back the old Bothell sign.
Jamison said he’s only brewed an amber one other time, but felt like doing something special to raise money for the sign. A little wheat in the grain bill gives the beer a honey-like up front sweetness. But there is a nice bitter finish. It’s a very sessionable beer for a festival.
It’s also no surprise that the official beer of the third annual Bothell Beer Festival is from Foggy Noggin. The pale ale, named BB16, is a true English pale ale. Brewed with four different hops, including British hops Northern Brewer and Challenger, BB16 is a crisp, malty pale ale that is perfect for a stormy October day.
Enjoy both beers at this Saturday’s Bothell Beer Festival.
From the brewery: Malt bill consists of 2-Row, Maris Otter, Chocolate, Crystal and Wheat. Hops consist of Magnum, Cascade and Centennial. Proceeds from this beer are contributed to the “Bring Back The Welcome To Bothell” sign fund.
