SNOHOMISH COUNTY — Sunday marks the 21st anniversary of the terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C.
Ceremonies hosted by local firefighters will take place throughout the day.
Arlington: Elected officials, police, and firefighters and community members will gather for a memorial ceremony hosted by North County Fire & EMS at 7 p.m. at Station 46. On display is a steel beam from the World Trade Center.
Location: Fire Station 46, 137 N. MacLeod Ave., Arlington.
Edmonds: South County Union Firefighters will host a ceremony at 9:11 a.m. in front of the 9/11 Memorial in Fallen Firefighter Memorial Park. The program includes the South County Fire Honor Guard, bugler Debbie Dawson and a retired Edmonds Police Department officer. The guest speaker will be retired Snohomish County Fire District 1 Capt. Andy Speier, a former New York firefighter who helped search for survivors at Ground Zero.

Marysville: A memorial ceremony hosted by Marysville Fire District, Marysville Professional Firefighters/IAFF Local 3219, Marysville Police Department and the City of Marysville will begin at 8:30 a.m. Marysville Mayor Jon Nehring will give an address and along with a presentation by Marysville Fire District Honor Guard. The service will also honor Marysville Fire District Lt. Jeff Thornton, who died of cancer on Sept. 11, 2001.

Stanwood: A procession of emergency vehicles organized by North County Fire & EMS will begin at 10 a.m. at Port Susan Middle School. A ceremony at Station 99 will directly follow at about 10:15 a.m. American flags will be handed out to people at the corners of Highway 532 and Pioneer Highway; Highway 532 and 72nd Avenue NW; and 72nd and 267th Street NW.
