Crane operator dies when cable hits power line

LYNNWOOD — A boom crane operator died Thursday afternoon at a construction site when the crane’s cable struck a power line.

The operator’s name was withheld pending notification of next of kin, said Leon Reichle, the Snohomish County medical examiner’s chief investigator.

The incident happened at a construction site on 55th Avenue W. The cable struck the power line while the operator was unloading supplies from a delivery truck, Reichle said.

The Snohomish County sheriff’s office and the state Department of Labor and Industries are investigating.

Pedestrian dies: An Everett man struck by a vehicle while crossing Everett Avenue died Tuesday at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Gary Perry, 54, was struck about 6 p.m. Feb. 11 while crossing from the south to north side of the street outside Stone’s Fireplace Tavern. He suffered severe pelvic and spinal fractures, which led to his death, according to the King County medical examiner’s staff.

Everett police are investigating the accident. No charges have been filed.

Snohomish County

Lawmakers visit: Several Snohomish County legislators are returning to their districts from Olympia on Saturday to host town hall meetings.

State Rep. Hans Dunshee, D-Snohomish, has asked a state Department of Transportation engineer to attend two meetings to answer questions about traffic problems and projects in the 39th Legislative District. The meetings will be at Lake Stevens High School from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday and at the Snohomish PUD Building from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Residents of the 1st Legislative District in southeast Snohomish County are invited to the Northshore Senior Center, 10201 E. Riverside Drive in Bothell, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday to meet with Sen. Rosemary McAuliffe, D-Bothell, and Reps. Al O’Brien, D-Mountlake Terrace, and Jeanne Edwards, D-Bothell.

Rep. John Lovick, D-Mill Creek, will meet with residents of the 44th Legislative District from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Mill Creek Council Chambers at 15728 Mill Creek Blvd.
