GRAND COULEE — About 250 firefighters are working to fully contain a wildfire that has burned more than a square mile near Grand Coulee Dam in north-central Washington.
No injuries have been reported and no structures have burned in the fire that was reported Sunday afternoon. The fire is burning in heavy sage and grass on steep terrain north of Coulee City and west of the Columbia River.
Fire spokesman Jeff Sevigney said an evacuation advisory remains in place for up to 20 structures in the area. The fire has blackened 1,100 acres and is 60 percent contained.
On Monday, fire crews were able to fully contain a fire burning northwest of Leavenworth. That blaze burned about 450 acres and had forced the closure of U.S. 2 for three days there.
