Crime display at mall trips up purse snatcher

EVERETT – A purse snatcher picked the wrong day to steal at the Everett Mall.

The man was quickly arrested Tuesday after his getaway route took him directly to the displays Everett police were setting up for National Night Out at the mall.

The man grabbed a purse from a table at the food court and dashed out the door, Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said.

A group of shoppers chased after the man as he ran through the parking lot.

The man “literally ran through the displays, pulled down two chairs,” Goetz said.

Police chased him down and arrested him. The purse was recovered.

“He picked the wrong day, the wrong place and the wrong time,” Goetz said.

Everett man pleads guilty in slaying

An Everett man on Tuesday pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the March shooting death of Robert Sandgren, 18.

Goshua N. King, 25, faces more than 20 years in prison for his part in the killing. He is expected to be sentenced next month.

Two accomplices, Aaron Markus Thompson, 23, of Everett, and Joseph Evans, 26, of Kenmore, are scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 20.

The shooting happened after Sandgren’s girlfriend complained he had roughed her up, documents said. The three defendants arrived in car, reportedly to teach Sandgren a lesson.

King brought a shotgun with him, documents said. Sandgren resisted and grabbed the barrel of the weapon, according to court records. That’s when the weapon discharged and Sandgren was shot in the head.

Tulalip: Woman suffers burns in fire

A woman suffered burns to her face and hand when she attempted to extinguish a fire at her home on Sunday.

An electrical problem likely sparked the fire, Tulalip Bay Fire Department Deputy Chief Steve Jahn said.

The woman was taken to Providence Everett Medical Center. Her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, Jahn said.

The fire broke out about 10 a.m. at a single-wide mobile home in the 12600 block of Marine Drive NW. The woman attempted to put out the fire but was overwhelmed, Jahn said. She was able to escape and call for help.

Tulalip Bay firefighters along with crews from Stanwood, Silvana and North County Fire &EMS were able to douse the blaze quickly, Jahn said.
