LAKE STEVENS — A man was allegedly found with drugs, a gun and more than $40,000 after a routine traffic stop.
Now, the 53-year-old suspect is charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture or deliver, according to charging documents filed last week in Snohomish County Superior Court.
In July, a Lake Stevens police officer pulled over a driver for failing to transfer a title on a recently sold vehicle, according to a police report. When the passenger said he owned the truck, the officer took his information and ran a search. It turned out the man had two felony warrants and two misdemeanor warrants for his arrest.
The officer searched the suspect and found $2,000 in his wallet, mostly in $100 bills. Police arrested him and had his truck impounded.
In a followup search of the truck, police reported finding 1.2 grams of heroin, traces of methamphetamine, a digital scale with drug residue and a .44-caliber handgun.
In the trunk, they found 43 bundles of cash in a backpack, totaling $43,245. Officers reported that the cash had an “odor of heroin.”
It wasn’t the first or last time the suspect was reportedly possessing drugs and significant amounts of money.
A week earlier, Monroe police found heroin and several thousand dollars in cash in his vehicle, according to court documents.
And in October, Lake Stevens police reportedly found him with 390 grams of heroin, 73 grams of methamphetamine and 1,400 oxycodone pills.
He also was arrested for allegedly possessing methamphetamine two other times in the past two years.
