ROCHESTER, Ind. — An explosion rocked a warehouse that makes extinguishers for chimney fires Wednesday, killing four people and critically injuring a fifth, authorities said.
Two others escaped unharmed, said Fulton County Coroner Jon Good.
A man who was severely burned was in critical condition, said Chuck Linvill, house manager at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Fort Wayne.
The blast happened about 10:30 a.m. at the Pyro Design and Development warehouse about 30 miles from South Bend. The fire was brought under control in about an hour.
The chemicals kept in the warehouse were categorized as extremely dangerous. They included chromium nitrate and sodium bicarbonate, among others.
