A trumpet. A saxophone. A clarinet and a trombone.
An Everett man used those instruments for a crime spree, not for making beautiful music, Snohomish County prosecutors alleged Monday.
Donald Jay Duncan, 31, sold and pawned the instruments knowing that they’d been stolen in March from a Mukilteo storage unit, deputy prosecutor Coleen St. Clair alleged in Superior Court papers.
Thieves got away with 64 new high-end musical instruments valued at $94,000. Although Duncan wasn’t involved in the break-in, it wasn’t long before he gained access to the haul and began selling and pawning them for cash, the prosecutor alleged.
Mukilteo police investigated the theft, checking pawn shops for the loot. The paper trail led them to Duncan and a girlfriend, St. Clair alleged.
Police identified five people they suspected of being involved in the theft or selling the stolen instruments. So far, only Duncan has been hit with a felony charge. He faces a single count of first-degree possession of stolen property.
