EVERETT – The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday will search an area near Mount Pilchuck after receiving a report of possible human remains today.

On 10-17-2006 at approximately 01:38 pm, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office was notified of possible human remains found in the Mt Pilchuck area. The report of the remains was filed by two teens who state that they happened across the remains while hiking in the area. The teens were able to provide an approximate location of the remains for further follow-up and locating.
Following the initial report, sheriff’s office investigators attempted to confirm the presence of the remains utilizing the office helicopter. This attempt at confirmation proved unsuccessful due to the presence of thick and lingering fog in the general area. As a result, the initial report remains unconfirmed and investigators are in the process of formulating plans for a ground search of the area scheduled to occur on 10/18/2006.
There is no other information to report in this matter. The unconfirmed report is currently under investigation by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit. The next scheduled release of information will occur on 10/18/2006 following the competition of the ground search.
