PULLMAN — Washington State University is preparing to welcome the largest freshman class in its history, and they are gobbling up dorm rooms that might have gone to older students.
More than 4,300 freshmen, who are required to live on campus, are expected to fill the school’s residence halls next week.
Officials of the Pullman school say that leaves some 237 upperclassmen on a wait list for a dorm room.
WSU spokesman Phil Weiler says the upperclassmen may not get a dorm room and have to find another place to live.
The Moscow-Pullman Daily News reports the school has already reopened Waller Hall, a dormitory that closed in 2015, to accommodate incoming freshman men.
In an earlier version of this story, The Associated Press reported erroneously that Washington State University is short of rooms for incoming freshmen. The school has enough room for freshmen but is short of rooms for upperclassmen.
