Here are five local prep matchups to keep an eye on this week:
1. Boys swimming and diving: Shorecrest at Kamiak, 3:15 p.m. Tuesday. Kamiak, a traditional power with just two losses since 2008, enters this meet with an 8-0 record. The Scots come in with a 4-1 mark.
2. Girls basketball: Stanwood at Shorewood, 7:15 p.m. Wednesday. Stanwood’s stingy defense will try to slow down Shorewood star Taryn Shelley. There’s a good chance these teams will end up at the top of the 3A Wesco standings at the end of the season.
3. Bowling: Everett at Cascade, 3 p.m. Thursday at Majestic Lanes in Lynnwood. This will be a fun matchup because the two rivals share a practice facility, they know each other well and they’re the two best teams in Wesco. Everett coach Marjorie Bovey went to Cascade and bowled for Bruins coach Ron Hicks.
4. Boys wrestling: Kamiak at Jackson, 7 p.m. Friday. The Jackson Timberwolves came into Monday night’s match with Monroe with an unbeaten dual-meet record (7-0). Their 138-pound wrestler, Cole Anderson, is ranked fifth in the state by washingtonwrestlingreport.com.
5. Boys wrestling: Granite Falls, Glacier Peak, Jackson, Stanwood, Marysville Pilchuck at MP Premier Tournament, 9:30 a.m. Saturday. This is annually a solid tournament that draws a host of quality programs from Snohomish County and beyond.
