Mountlake Terrace

EDMONDS – Kerstin Torrescano scored her second goal of the game with less than five minutes remaining in regulation Thursday, to lift Mountlake Terrace to a 2-1 victory over Edmonds-Woodway in the Wesco South season-finale for both teams.

The Hawks (5-4 league, 8-7-1 overall) not only eliminated last season’s Wesco South co-champion, but they also clinched the division’s fourth and final district playoff berth. Mountlake Terrace plays Cascade, the Wesco North’s No. 3 seed, at 7 p.m. Monday at Everett Memorial Stadium.

“We have been dealing with a lot of things this season,” Edmonds-Woodway coach Bill LeCompte said. “We have had a lot of injuries and those have effected the way we’ve been playing.”

Torrescano scored her first goal in the 32nd minute to give Mountlake Terrace a 1-0 lead.

Edmonds-Woodway’s Carly MacKay answered six minutes later, tying the score at 1-1.

“We got caught up playing their game style and not ours,” LeCompte said. “We did however, have our opportunities in the second half. But we just couldn’t cash in.”

Mountlake Terrace goalkeeper Miranda Hanson fought off the majority of E-W’s13 total shots in the second half.

“Miranda came up big for them,” LeCompte said. “She was huge for them. I think she saved them.”
