The Everett High School boys golf team accepted an invitation to compete in the prestigious 14th annual Champions Invitational later this month in Southern California, according to Seagulls coach Darrell Olson.
The 54-hole tournament consisting of top high school golf teams from around the country will be held March 29-30 at The Golf Club at Terra Lago in Indio, California.
Olson said Everett returns every golfer from last year’s team that took second place in the Class 3A state tournament.
Past individual winners of the Champions Invitational include PGA Tour pros Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Beau Hossler and Patrick Cantlay.
Monroe basketball coach steps down
Monroe boys basketball coach Ben Williams has resigned after two seasons at the helm, according to an email from Bearcats athletic director Mark Henderson.
According to Henderson, Williams stated: “I have appreciated the opportunity to coach basketball in the Monroe School District. … The commute from Seattle to Monroe has become more time consuming and difficult over the past two seasons. My goal is to find a coaching position in a more competitive environment, closer to my home, in the (greater) Seattle area.”
Monroe went 21-21 in two seasons under Williams. The Bearcats finished 4-15 this past season, including 3-10 in Wesco 4A.
“We want to thank Ben for his service to the student-athletes of Monroe High School and wish him the very best in his future coaching endeavors,” Henderson said.
