PREP ROUNDUP: BASEBALL/BOYS GOLF/BOYS SOCCER

SNOHOMISH — Cascade scored four early runs and used some spectacular defense, according to Snohomish coach Kim Hammons, to preserve it’s lead as the Bruins defeated Snohomish 5-4 Wednesday in a Wesco North baseball game.

“Cascade made all the plays,” Hammons said. “They played a great game.”

The Bruins (5-0 in league, 5-4 overall) scored two runs in the first inning then doubled their lead in the second when Jordan Duffy hit a two-run home run.

Cascade then got aggressive on defense, making diving catches and irregular double plays.

Duffy made a diving catch in the second inning with the bases loaded and doubled up a Snohomish baserunner to end the inning. With the bases loaded in the fourth inning, the Panthers hit a groundball to the Cascade shortstop, who went to second base for the force out then to third for the tag out to end the inning.

First baseman Barrett Davis ended the game by snagging a line drive.

“It was a game of inches,” Hammons said. “a lot of great plays.

“We were down early and had to battle back. We had a ton of opportunities to score runs and we just did not get the big hit … Cascade made all the plays.”

Colter Henry hit a solo home run in the sixth inning and Bryce Meinhold and Austin Reynolds each batted 2-for-4 for Snohomish (4-3, 7-3).
