MARYSVILLE — Thanks to muddy conditions, it took awhile for Marysville-Pilchuck (8-0-2 league, 8-0-2 overall) to find its footing on Friday night during a Wesco North boys soccer game at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.

“We came out a little sluggish in the first half,” said Marysville-Pilchuck coach Geoff Kittle, who said the field was covered in about 3 inches of mud. “In the second half, we came out and played a much better and more physical game.”

Midfielder John Crenshaw scored in the 28th minute and the Tomahawks found a rhythm to score three goals in 14 minutes and win the game 3-1 against Arlington (6-4-0, 6-4-0). The win moved Marysville-Pilchuck into first place in the Wesco North, one point ahead of Snohomish.

Crenshaw scored the first goal of the game off a header by Kevin Chavez. Jake Smith scored Arlington’s lone point, an unassisted goal in the 36th minute, to tie the score. Two minutes later, Crenshaw connected with a Chavez assist to give the Tomahawks the lead 2-1 at halftime.

Brady Ballew solidified Marysville-Pilchuck’s lead in the 42nd minute on a free kick after being fouled on the 18-yard line.
