PREP ROUNDUP: Cascade breaks tie game open in bottom of the 7th inning

EVERETT — Entering the bottom of the sixth inning of Friday’s non-conference softball game between Cascade and Glacier Peak the score was tied at 4-4.

Then, Rae Dorcas, led off the inning with a double and began a stretch of hits that the Grizzlies probably wish they could forget.

In all, the Bruins scored seven runs in the inning, which proved to be the difference in the 11-4 Cascade win.

Dorcas batted 2-for-3 for the game, both hits coming in the sixth inning. Talyn Miller also knocked in two runs with a double in the sixth inning.

“We were just patient at the plate and getting a little deeper in the count,” Cascade coach Wendy Close said.

Cascade pitcher Samantha Munger stayed unbeaten (3-0) on the season and also batted 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Close has also been impressed with sophomore Taylor Arbuckle, who has been successful in her first year on varsity. Arbuckle batted 3-for-4 on Friday.

“She sprays the ball all over the field and she is pretty quick on the bases,” Close said.

Despite only having 10 players on its varsity team this year, Cascade entered the season as one of the favorites in the Wesco North, and now has won its first three games.

“I’m real happy with what we have, we have been bonding really well and playing really well as a team,” Close said.
