PREP ROUNDUP: Stanwood clinches softball playoff berth

OAK HARBOR — It took one baserunner, one hit and one run to earn one playoff berth.

Shawna Hochstetler hit an RBI double with two outs in the top of the third inning and that turned out to be enough for Stanwood to defeat Oak Harbor 1-0 in a Wesco North game Tuesday at Hillcrest Elementary School in Oak Harbor.

With the win the Spartans clinched a 4A District 1 playoff berth.

“We’re just taking (the games) one at a time,” Stanwood head coach Cherlyn Schander said. “Just another game to prepare for (Wednesday).”

Today’s game, against current Wesco North leader Marysville-Pilchuck (12-0 league, 13-2 overall), is vital if Stanwood is going to rally to win the conference.

Hochstetler (2-for-3) had the game-winning hit to score Elizabeth Barnes and Brittany Jeans improved to 13-2, which also happens to be Stanwood’s (10-2, 13-2) team record, with the win.

“She is the pitcher for the team,” Schander said.

The James Madison University (Virginia)-bound senior pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts, walked no one and allowed only three hits to Oak Harbor (0-13, 1-13) which remained winless in conference play.

Snohomish 15, Lake Stevens 10: At Lake Stevens, Autumn Isaacson batted 4-for-5 and hit her third home run in as many games to lead Lake Stevens to a Wesco North win. Isaacson finished with two RBI for the Vikings. Brianna Lidke pitched in with a double and four RBI for Lake Stevens and Shelby Miksch (4-for-5) and Tayler Blumenfeld (3-for-4) also had strong games. For Snohomish, Lindsey West batted 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBI, Janelle Kasch batted 4-for-4 and Kelsey Goodwin knocked in two runs and had eight strikeouts on the mound.
