PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP

MILL CREEK — To be the best it’s necessary to beat the best.

The Jackson softball team defeated Mountlake Terrace, the next 4A team in the conference standings, 1-0 at Jackson High School Tuesday, clinching the Wesco South championship for the Timberwolves (16-2 in league, 18-2 overall).

“It’s everybody’s goal to get there,” Jackson head coach Mike Moran said. “Credit them. They went out and did what they had to do to be the number one team in the South.”

The lone run of the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Timberwolves’ Dani Jackman hit a single and reached second on an error. Carly McEachran then hit a single to drive in what would be the game-winning run.

“Both pitchers did really well,” Moran said.

The game featured stellar pitching performances by both teams. Jackman (18-2) pitched seven innings, striking out nine batters and allowed no walks. Kori Seidlitz pitched all six innings for the Hawks (13-4, 14-4), racking up 11 strikeouts and did not issue a walk either.

“It was a great game,” Moran said. “A great tune-up for districts for both teams … Our focus was to play well and we did that.

“We took advantage of a really good opportunity we had and we scored a run … that’s the difference. It was a good, tight, district-like caliber game. That’s what we needed. That’s what both teams needed.”
