PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP

EVERETT — It took Stanwood eight innings to score, but the one run was all the Spartans needed.

Stanwood’s Kaylee Gladsjo drew a one-out walk, and freshman Shawna Hochstetler drove in Gladsjo, giving Stanwood the 1-0 Wesco North softball win at Everett High School.

With the win, Stanwood kept its perfect season alive at 14-0 overall and 11-0 in the Wesco North, clinching a 4A District 1 playoff berth.

Both Stanwood’s Brittany Jeans and Everett’s Alexandra Hudson pitched complete games, with just five combined hits allowed. Jeans finished with nine strikouts, allowing two walks and two hits. Hudson threw four strikeouts, allowing two walks and three hits.

“It was a great pitchers duel, through seven innings both pitchers gave up only two hits,” Everett head coach Kyle Peacocke said. “It could have gone either way.”

Everett started the eighth inning with a leadoff walk and advanced the runner to second base on a sacrifice bunt. But Jeans slammed the door, getting three consecutive outs.

“Going into the eighth I felt good about our chances cause we put the ball in play hard against her the entire game,” Peacocke said. “Truthfully, we had more scoring chances than they did, but couldn’t get a clutch hit.”

Everett’s best chance to score came in the fifth inning, when freshman Alexie Levin ledoff with a double. But Jeans pitched out of the jam, keeping Levin on second base before getting the third out on a strikeout.
