PREP SWIMMING ROUNDUP: Oak Harbor takes possession of first in Wesco North

MILL CREEK —Oak Harbor’s girls swim team created a little separation from Jackson at the top of the Wesco North on Thursday, defeating the Timberwolves 102-68.

Both teams came into Thursday’s meet undefeated in the Wesco North, but after taking eight of 11 events, Oak Harbor stood alone at the top.

“It was definitely a big meet for us because traditionally we have gone back and forth with them,” Oak Harbor coach Erika Miller said. “And of course it means now that we are undefeated.

“They (Oak Harbor) wanted to beat Jackson and Marysville and they have been able to do that this year,” Miller said.

Miller said that she thinks her team just “out swam” Marysville in their first meeting, but knows that could all change.

“If it came down to a meet with them it could go either way, the same with Jackson,” Miller said.

Jackson’s Kaitlin Taylor was impressive in defeat, qualifying for the 4A state meet in the 100-yard butterfly for the third time this year. Taylor won the event with a time of 1 minute, 0.59 seconds.

Oak Harbor’s Ciara Hu and Laura Rosen have both previously qualified for the 4A state meet in the 100 butterfly, but Taylor got the better of them on Thursday. Rosen has also qualified for state in the 200 individual medley and the 500 freestyle. Miller expects Akasha Trisler to also qualify for the 100 butterfly sometime this season.

Taylor also helped Jackson win the 400 freestyle relay out touching Jackson’s Laura Rosen at the wall.

“She’s incredible, really, really incredible to watch swim,” Miller said.
