Snohomish sweeps away Lake Stevens

LAKE STEVENS — After dispatching Lake Stevens in dominating fashion Thursday, the Snohomish Panthers have to hope the Vikings can rebound to win their next Wesco North meet.

Snohomish blitzed the Vikings 129-64 at the Lake Stevens Pool to remain one win behind Marysville-Pilchuck in the division standings. Lake Stevens hosts unbeaten M-P on Tuesday and a Vikings’ win would give Snohomish a long shot at the dual-meet championship.

M-P, which defeated Snohomish in December, can lock up the title with a win over the Vikings or one over Cascade in its final league meet next Thursday.

Should M-P lose twice, Snohomish can gain the crown with a victory in its last meet against Oak Harbor next Thursday.

Against Lake Stevens, Snohomish went 1-2 in two of the three relays and two of its three relay teams swam state qualifying times. The Panthers swept the top three spots in the 50-yard freestyle, 100 breaststroke and diving and went 1-2 in the 500 freestyle and 100 butterfly.

Snohomish’s Garren Riechel swam state qualifying times in the 500 freestyle and 100 breaststroke and teammate Logan Goodman won the 50 and 100 freestyle races.
