Snohomish wraps up another league crown

MILL CREEK – Snohomish wrapped up another undefeated season and secured its eighth straight dual-meet league championship Friday, defeating Cascade 137-33 in a Wesco North meet at the Mill Creek Swim Club.

“They were dominant,” Cascade coach Eric Smith said.

Snohomish (7-0 league, 7-2 overall) took the top three spots in every event but the 100-yard butterfly, where Cascade (4-3, 6-4) placed third.

Sophomore Kelsey Randolf won the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly for the Panthers and swam on the winning 200 freestyle relay team.

Junior Deborah Shawback won the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke and swam on the winning 400 freestyle relay team.

At Mill Creek

200 medley relay-Snohomish (Nesbitt, Blue, Perry, Corcoran) 2:04.85; 200 freestyle-Nichol (S) 2:06.89; 200 individual medley-Behla (S) 2:19.96; 50 freestyle-Randolf (S) 26.05; Diving-not held; 100 butterfly-Randolf (S) 1:02.92; 100 freestyle-Shawback (S) 56.23; 500 freestyle-Manickam (S) 5:38.62; 200 freestyle relay-Snohomish (Randolf, Manickam, Bilbro, Behla) 1:50.32; 100 backstroke-Shawback (S) 1:04.57; 100 breaststroke-Blue (S) 1:15.74; 400 freestyle relay-Snohomish (Shawbacxk, Nichol, Wagner, Behla) 3:56.83. Records-Snohomish 7-0, 7-2, Cascade 4-3, 6-4.

Boys tennis

Wesco South meet: Shorewood’s Sachin Narvekar took third place in singles and the division’s third seed in next week’s District 1 meet by injury default over Edmonds-Woodway’s Reid Fenning, who advanced as the fourth seed.

In doubles, Mike Maldazys and Sam Zipper of Edmonds-Woodway led Nomar Mapalo and Aaron Lee of Shorewood 7-6 (7-3), 5-2 when Mapalo and Lee defaulted, giving the E-W pair third place and the third seed next week. Mapalo and Lee settled for the fourth seed.

At Mill Creek

Singles

Third place-Narvekar (Shorewood) def. Fenning (Edmonds-Woodway), by injury default.

Fifth-place-Klazynski (Kamiak) def. Lee (Kamiak), 7-5, 6-3.

Doubles

Third place-D. Elis-A. Eli (Meadowdale) def. Mapalo-Lee (Shorewood), 7-6 (7-3), 5-2 injury default.

Fifth place-Grennan-McCleary (Edmonds-Woodway) def. Reed-Kim (Jackson) by injury default.

Wesco North meet: Snohomish’s Zach Gordon took third place in singles and the division’s third seed in next week’s District 1 meet, defeating Ryan Arndt of Lake Stevens, 6-3, 6-1. Arndt advanced as the fourth seed. In doubles, Zach Tafoya and Daniel Redfern of Stanwood defeated Riley Mahoney and Kent Herman of Monroe, 6-2, 6-3, for third place and the third seed next week. Mahoney and Herman will be the fourth seed.

At Mount Vernon

Singles

Third place-Gordon (Snohomish) def. Arndt (Lake Stevens), 6-3, 6-1.

Doubles

Third place-Redfern-Tafoya (Stanwood) def. Mahoney-Herman (Monroe), 6-2, 6-3.

Girls soccer

Snohomish County Christian 3, King’s West 1: Nicole Brekkaa scored a goal in each half to lead Snohomish County Christian to the non-league victory. Brekkaa’s goal in the second half broke a 1-1 tie. Kacie Zuspan also scored for SCC.

At Mountlake Terrace

Goals-King’s West: own goal. SCC: Brekkaa 2, Zuspan 1. Goalkeepers-KW: unavailable. SCC: Castor. Records-King’s West 6-7-1 overall. SCC 6-7.
