Stanwood boys beat fatigue, Monroe 49-46

STANWOOD — Back-to-back games wear a team down, but the Stanwood boys basketball team survived a scare to hold off Monroe, 49-46, in a Wesco North league game Saturday night at Stanwood.

The Spartans beat Arlington on Friday night and Saturday’s tight win was their sixth in a row.

“We had a little trouble getting energy from the (Friday) game,” Stanwood head coach Zach Ward said. “We were slugglish.”

Trailing by six points at the break, 5-foot-9 reserve guard Ryan Jamieson and 6-foot-3 post Jordon Solvberg cranked the intensity up a notch for Stanwood, Ward said.

Jamieson scored 13 points off the bench and Solvberg had 12 points and six steals (five in the second half).

“Jamieson was huge for us,” Ward said. “He brought a lot of energy.”

The Spartans were uncharacteristically out-rebounded 9-5 in the first half and played poorly overall, according to Ward.

“We shot the ball pretty bad, but we didn’t play defense either,” Ward said about Stanwood’s first half. “I think we grew up a lot at halftime.

“We re-evaluated at half, I thought our bench was awesome,” Ward said.

Along with Jamieson, Nic Jacobs grabbed five rebounds and Kaleb Orcutt brought energy off the bench.

“It’s not all about points,” Ward said.
