Boys and girls state golf tournaments in all classifications teed off Tuesday. Here’s a roundup of how local golfers fared after the first 18 holes of the 36-hole tournaments:
4A BOYS
SPOKANE — Jackson’s Jacob Kang shot a 1-over-par 73 at Qualchan Golf Course to finish in a tie for eighth place after the opening round of the 4A boys state golf tournament, but will be chasing leader JJ Bordeaux of Bellarmine Prep who fired a 6-under 66 to pace the field.
Kamiak’s Luke Strand (75) was in a tie for 17th place, Lake Stevens’ Hugo Ramires (76) was tied for 25th and Kamiak’s Brandon Suh (77) and Jackson’s Henry Kippenhan (77) were tied for 33rd. As a team Kamiak made the cut and sat in seventh place at plus-22, 24 shots behind a Sumner team that shot 2-under as a group.

4A GIRLS
SPOKANE — Kamiak’s Heaven Kim was the top local finisher after the first round of the 4A girls state golf tournament after shooting a 9-over 81 at Indian Canyon Golf Course to sit in a tie for 17th place, 15 shots behind leader Jade Gruher of Union who shot a 6-under 66.
Kamiak’s Abbie Dyer (87) was tied for 27th place. Kamiak also qualified as a team, but did not make the cut to the final eight.

3A BOYS
OLYMPIA — Stanwood’s Conrad Chisman shot an even-par 72 at Indian Summer Golf and Country Club to place himself firmly in contention just two shots back of leader Max Herendeen of Bishop Blanchet after Round 1 of the 3A boys state tournament. Chisman was in a tie for fourth place and Snohomish’s Palmer Mutcheson was in a tie for ninth after firing a 3-over 75.
Chisman is scheduled to tee off in a group at 9:20 a.m. and Mutcheson at 10:10 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Stanwood’s Sam Johnston (82) was the next highest local finisher in the competitive field in a tie for 57th. As a team Snohomish was the only local school to make the cut. The Panthers sat in eighth place overall, 26 shots back of leader Mead.

3A GIRLS
LACEY — Mountlake Terrace’s Alison Dumo shot a 95, tied for 56th place, and was the top local golfer after the first round of the 3A girls state tournament at The Golf Club at Hawks Prairie. Southridge’s Jillian Hui paced the field with a 2-under-par 70.
Meadowdale’s Siv Noora Wolter (98) and Shorewood’s Emily Zhang (98) were both tied for 66th place. No local girls teams made the cut. Bellevue was in first place as team after Round 1.

2A BOYS
LIBERTY LAKE — Archbishop Murphy pair Nick Ennis and Eric Leonen both shot a 1-over 71 at Liberty Lake Golf Course to sit in a tie for fifth place just two shots behind a trio of leaders after the first round of the 2A boys state golf tournament.
Burlington-Edison’s Wyatt Brownwell and Ben Wilson, and Centralia’s Von Wasson were all deadlocked in first place after shooting 1-under 69s. Archbishop Murphy’s Jack Duffy was the next-highest local finisher after Round 1 with an 82 and a tie for 38th.

2A GIRLS
LIBERTY LAKE — Cedarcrest standout Charlotte Giffin shot a blazing 3-under-par 69 to take a four-shot lead after the opening round of the 2A girls state golf tournament at Meadowwood Golf Course. Sitting four shots back and in a group tied for second was Lakewood junior Kiana Schroeder.
Schroeder fired a 73, and Cedarcrest’s Hadley McDonough posted a 95 to sit in a tie for 36th place to round out the top local finishers after Round 1.
Giffin and Schroeder will both tee off in the final group at 8:57 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
