Tuesday’s prep stars of the night

Vlad Gilszmer, Kamiak swimming

Gilszmer, a freshman, posted a 500 freestyle time of 4:48.53 in his first scholastic meet, beating the 4A state qualifying standard by nearly 10 seconds and helping the Knights beat Cascade 113-72 to open the season.

Christian Liddell, W, Jackson

Liddell, a junior, scored 24 points and hit six 3-pointers to help the Timberwolves beat Everett 68-49 in a non-conference matchup.

Guage Holland, Kamiak wrestling

Holland, a junior 152-pounder, scored a second-period takedown of Meadowdale’s Elias Lynch in the final bout of the match, and hung on for a 6-3 victory via decision. The win forged a 39-all tie between the two teams, and the Knights won on tiebreaker criteria.

Kody Newman, G, South Whidbey

Newman, a junior, scored 28 points (15 in the second half) to help the Falcons to a 73-60 win over Sultan in the Cascade Conference opener for both teams.

Taylor Sturgeon, G, Monroe

Sturgeon, a junior, scored 24 points for the depleted Bearcats in a 62-47 win over Marysville Getchell.

Philip Pepple, F, Shorecrest

Pepple, a 6-foot-9 senior, scored 29 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Scots thrashed cross-town rival Shorewood 83-48.

Casey Lauritsen, W, Cascade

Lauritsen, a senior, scored 24 points to help the Bruins beat Marysville Pilchuck 44-36 in a girls’ non-conference matchup.
