A domestic-violence assault was stopped in Edmonds Tuesday morning when two Good Samaritans intervened, officials said.
Police allege that a 21-year-old Edmonds man was driving from Everett to Edmonds with his 19-year-old ex-girlfriend and their 15-month-old child in the car, Edmonds police Sgt. Mark Marsh said.
Police believe the man was assaulting the woman throughout the drive.
They pulled over near his home about 2:20 a.m. at the Park Ballinger Apartments at 22907 76th Ave W. Two men nearby heard the woman screaming, Marsh said. They saw the man hitting the woman, who was holding the child.
“They yelled at him and he didn’t stop,” Marsh said.
A fight broke out, and the two men allegedly beat up the 21-year-old, Marsh said. One of them may have been armed with a wooden weapon, but it hadn’t been sorted out yet. The men also took the woman to a safe location nearby while they waited for police.
The 21-year-old man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment of lacerations to his face, Marsh said. No other serious injuries were reported.
The two other men were detained, questioned and later released, Marsh said.
“Detectives are still actively investigating the incident to clarify the facts surrounding the assaults,” he said.
