EVERETT — Republican state Sen. Ron Muzzall moved ahead of Democratic challenger Helen Price Johnson following Thursday’s round of ballot counting in the 10th Legislative District.
Muzzall led Price Johnson by 307 votes after trailing on election night by 1,319 votes.
Muzzall, of Oak Harbor, is seeking to keep the seat to which he was appointed in 2019. Price Johnson, of Clinton, is an Island County commissioner.
The two are competing for a four-year term in the district, which covers all of Whidbey Island and Camano Island, as well as parts of south Skagit and north Snohomish counties, including the cities of Mount Vernon, La Conner and Stanwood.
In a battle for an open House seat in the district, Democrat Angie Homola continued to lead Republican Greg Gilday, but her advantage was shrinking. She had a 400-vote lead Thursday, down from 878 a day earlier.
The next update of votes will be released late Friday.
