E-W pulls away to drop Shorewood

SHORELINE — Shorewood won the big match, but Edmonds-Woodway claimed the team victory.

The Warriors won nine of the last 10 matches to capture a 57-15 Wesco South victory Friday night at Shorewood High School.

Shorewood’s Tim Hester, the state’s No. 1-rated Class 4A 189-pound wrestler, faced off against No. 4-rated Rudy Johansen of Edmonds-Woodway. Hester, state runner-up, controlled the match to score an 11-2 major decision over Johansen and run his season record to 19-0.

“Tim stepped it up and was able to dominate the match to get the victory,” Shorewood coach Arnie Moreno said.

After Hester’s victory, it went the Warriors way as they rattled off seven straight victories.

“They wrestled really well overall as a team,” Moreno said. “We are a young team and they were impressive.”
