EVERETT — Heavy rain is expected to continue through Tuesday, increasing the risk of river flooding and landslides.
An additional 2 to 5 inches of precipitation was anticipated to fall over parts of Western Washington through Tuesday, according to a Monday memo from the National Weather Service in Seattle.
The Snohomish River was expected to reach flood stage early Tuesday and crest at about 4 p.m. Moderate flooding was expected.
The forecast called for the Stillaguamish River to crest around 10 p.m. Monday and the Skykomish River to reach its high at about 4 a.m. Tuesday. At those levels, minor flooding was expected, the weather service said.
Heavy rain may also lead to flooding of creeks, streams, low-lying areas and other flood-prone locations. There is also an increased landslide risk as rain saturates soil.
